liebe kollegInnen, wir moechten ihnen den folgenden call zur kenntnis bringen. alle kollegInnen, die im weitesten sinn einen philosophischen, kulturtheoretischen u.ae. beitrag planen, ersuchen wir zusätzlich zur kontaktnahme mit den organisatoren auch um eine kontaktnahme mit uns.

General topic: Challanges for the Information Economy. Concentration, evaluation and filtering of information

This years' focus stresses a continuing tendency of information science towards a stronger committment to the needs of the market and of the users. The work of information scientists needs to be further professionalized and has to face the economic challanges for modern information systems. This will be a difficult task as it is shown by the revolutionary developments in Multimedia, Hypertext, visualization of user interfaces and value adding services like the Internet.The new global online services are a challenge to the traditional information service structures.

These new technologies will cause dramatic changes in our society. Search, filtering, concentration and evaluation are the central problems.

However, submissions are not limited to these issues. Papers are also welcome on the following topics: - basic research in information science, - social and cultural consequences, - viewpoint of related disciplines like Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Communication design.

Conference languages are English and German. Presentations should not exceed 30 minutes.

This years' ISI is organized by the Information Center for the Social Sciences in Bonn, the Humboldt University Berlin and the German Assciation for Information Science.
